Mistletoe, Christmas carols, presents, Santa, and love; these are some the things that movies have made us love about Christmas. So get that glass of milk and cookies you're planning to set side for Santa. We're counting down our (and maybe yours, too) favourite Christmas movies.
3. Elf
Will Ferrell – he’s an enigma, isn’t he? Some find his version of comedy to be fifth-grade level, while others say that his charm is simple – the deadpan and poker-faced delivery of his jokes. What do I think? Well, I’m with the latter. His movies are stupid, but funny at the same time.
In Elf, Ferrell plays Buddy, a regular-sized man who was raised as an elf by Santa. For unexplainable reasons (other than the fact that he might be stupid), he thinks that he is indeed an elf. When the not-so-shocking news breaks that he is not an elf, he returns to his place of birth, New York City, where he looks for his biological family.
Elf is the kind of movie that you can watch as a family, and even more suitable for the cheesy-Christmas-movie addict. Everything about this movie is silly, and that’s exactly how Christmas movies are supposed to be – light-hearted.

2. Love Actually
There is nothing we like better than to see a movie making pop culture references. Liam Neeson’s portrayal of THAT legendary scene was unforgettable at the very least. Colin Firth’s role as a writer who falls in love with a Portuguese housekeeper, along with Hugh Grant’s dancing Prime Minister, are forever etched in the memory of most.
True to the Christmas spirit of love, ‘Love Actually’ did not disappoint. Who can forget pre-The Walking Dead Andrew Lincoln’s declaration of love towards Keira Knightley through handwritten signs, standing outside her front door in the cold London snow?

Unlike many movies that utilize ensemble casts (Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve, we’re looking at you), this movie manages to keep everything connected and sensible. ‘Love Actually’ is, actually, a great movie.
1. Home Alone
IMDb rated this film a 7.3. I say IMDb doesn’t have a clue. Sure, it’s a kid’s movie, complete with unrealistic and bumbling burglars who entertain more than they terrify. But believe me, you'll have a hard time looking for a grown adult who isn't fond of this classic.
Macaulay Culkin showcased the sort of talent that not many child stars possess these days. Hey, playing a little kid left home on Christmas isn’t easy, guys. The burglars (comically performed by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) play the perfect comedic duo.
With three sequels under its belt, ‘Home Alone’ has established itself as a Christmas tradition, and there is no better honour for the film that we place as our No. 1.
